The Cast of FX’s Snowfall Host Screening at Regal South Beach on July 28, 2017

snowfall-fx-poster

Have you been watching this show?! Well, If you haven’t you need to start!

I attended the screening for FX’s Snowfall that was hosted by the cast a few weeks ago at the Regal Cinema theater on South Beach. Saw a few familiar faces of Miami’s taste maker’s, power players and obviously the cast of Snowfall. Shout out to my girl Elora Mason for the plug!

The heart of Snowfall, John Singleton’s new FX series about the origins of the crack epidemic, is Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), a smart, kindhearted teenager who takes care of his mother, keeps the neighborhood kids in line, works nights in a bodega, and sells weed on the side for his uncle Jerome (Amin Joseph). One day, a white friend from his fancy high school in the Valley recruits Franklin to procure more cocaine for his pool party. “You afraid to go get it, so send a black guy, right?” Franklin says, quizzically. “I’ll be the black guy. Shit, I’m always the black guy.” Which is how he finds himself in the house of a comical Israeli cocaine dealer (Andrew Howard) who only sells in bulk. And senses an opportunity.

Snowfall is full of moments like this—scenes and interludes that attempt to put the complex racial and geopolitical dynamics of the 1980s drug trade in context. Franklin is just one of a revolving cast of characters who see the growing enthusiasm for cocaine in the U.S. as a way to further their own ambitions, while staying willfully blind to the consequences. There’s Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson), a disgraced CIA agent who gets involved in an off-the-books operation with Nicaraguan Contras to try and resurrect his career. And Lucia (Emily Rios), the niece of a drug lord who stages a robbery to fund her own business. In its sprawling consideration of the many different players who kickstarted an epidemic, Snowfall ticks all the boxes of a prestige drug drama. But its characters often feel like ciphers, generic stand-ins for the various factions implicated in cocaine’s rise. Singleton can’t quite get to the core of why these sympathetic and intelligent people would be so willing to risk everything for a business whose ugliest elements seem to horrify them.

I got a chance to interview a few of the cast members on the red carpet check it out!

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK’S DASCHA POLANCO HONORED WITH HER OWN DAY IN NEW YORK CITY

DASCHA

One time for the Curvy Chicks! It has been one hell of a week in Chunky Chickz World but I’m glad we can end the week on a good note!

Dascha Polanco of #OITNB fame was honored with her very own day in New York City on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Aug. 8th has officially been declared “Dascha Polanco Day.” On Tuesday Mayor Bill de Blasio honored the actress during Dominican Heritage Night, he presented her with a proclamation dedicated to her philanthropic impact on the Dominican community, her groundbreaking career as a Hollywood star, and for opening a theater program with The Dream Project in her native Dominican Republic.

Dascha took to Instagram to share her excitement, with a video clip from the ceremony and a caption that read.

“Today was an honor to have the Mayor of NYC & the First Lady celebrate my culture. It was a moment to embrace, they honored me today with a proclamation that today 8/8/2017 is DASCHA POLANCO DAY in the City of NY. I’m proud to be a Dominican raised in Brooklyn. #selflovery #ismellgood

#MUSICMONDAY AMERIE’S “WHY DON’T WE FALL IN LOVE”

Amerie_-_All_I_Have_album

It was late spring/summer 2002 (15 years ago WOW!) Amerie a 22 year old crooner asked us a simple question. Why don’t we fall in love??? With the side walk as her catwalk the 22 year old strutted as she told us that tomorrow ain’t really guaranteed, and to do anything less than fall in love was well…. Stupid! This holds true today, with so much negativity in this world it would be nice to have someone to come home to at night that is a guaranteed safe space, full of love, support and appreciation.

It’s 2017 and the question still holds true… “Why Don’t We Fall In Love?”

Enjoy the vibes below…

HOT TOPIC: RICK ROSS REVEALS HIS SEX PROOF BUSINESS STRATEGY

rick-ross-k-michelle

On the heels of Lifetime’s “The Rap Game,” VH1 has created its own Atlanta-based reality competition music show called “Signed.”

The show, which airs on Wednesday at 8 p.m., features three mentors: rap impresario and part-time Atlantian Rick Ross, Atlanta rap star The-Dream and Lenny Santiago, senior vice president of Jay Z’s Roc Nation label.

rickrosssignedvh1

In the first episode, most of the action happens at Patchwerks Recording Studios in West Midtown Atlanta, which was originally created by former NFL player and “Real Housewives” participant Bob Whitfield 23 years ago and has recorded music with artists ranging from Mariah Carey and Toni Braxton to Britney Spears and 50 Cent.

During a promotional interview for the show Rick Ross, was asked why he had never signed a woman to his label.

His answer…

“You know,” he gave an explanation of the personnel make-up of Maybach Music Group, “I never did it because I always thought I would end up fucking a female rapper and fucking the business up.”

“I’m so focused on my business,” Rick went on. “I just, I gotta be honest with you. You know, she looking good. I’m spending so much money on her photo shoots. I gotta fuck a couple times.”

So there’s that…

So the team at Chunky Chickz Radio Show decided that we would delve a little bit into Rick Ross’ perspective and discuss this topic as only we can.

So, was Ross being sexist? A lot of women were offended by Ross speaking his truth… Do women really want to hear the truth from men? Does Ross have a right to conduct his business as he sees fit?

FYI Ross has since apologized and all is well, but we still felt the topic needed to be addressed. Please tune in to Chunky Chickz Radio show each and every Sunday at 8:30 pm on sndsradio.com to hear our perspectives!
