VIC MENSA: HOV APPROVES!

vicmensa

Last night Vic Mensa held a listening session for his debut Album which is set to be released on July 28th. It’s like he’s guaranteed success with Jay-Z providing the introduction at his listening event. Big Tings!

According to Jay, Vic Mensa is a “once in a lifetime artist”

“Vic is a very special talent. He can do everything – sing well, rap well. He even engineers himself sometimes. He’s an incredible artist, like a once in a lifetime artist,” – Jay – Z

Here’s the part that I love about Jay’s intro… He basically informed the crowd to not be on no industry shit! (excuse the hood grammar) I feel him… In my experience, I have been witness to stale, boring events where essentially industry folk come out to people watch, “network” and not to have good time. Side note: I’m working on an event called Miami Renaissance and this will be strictly prohibited. You better bring your dancing shoes because that is how we roll on this side… lol but seriously!

Ok, back to Vic Mensa lol

Vic took the stage to speak on his debut project, stating the following:

“This album is called The Autobiography. This album is really my blood, sweat, and tears, and everything that I’ve learned up to this point in life,” the Roc Nation signee began. “I kind of had to go through a lot of different things to even be able to put this album down on wax… When I talk about this album, I often say that somebody listening to it would know me better than a casual acquaintance that has known me for twenty years, if you listen to this album and really digest it. The things that I’m saying on there are so personal and real to me, but I wanted to make it in a way that everybody could relate to those situations to their own lives… This is just my story, The Autobiography.”

The Autobiography: As Told By Vic Mensa will host features from Weezer, Syd, The-Dream, Pharrell, Saul Williams, Ty Dolla $ign, and fellow Chicago natives, Joey Purp and Chief Keef. No I.D. helms as the project’s executive producer.

MUSIC MONDAY: LUNCHMONEY LEWIS “BILLS” (VIDEO)

lunchmoney lewis

I was browsing on IG a few days ago when I saw a post that DJ Khaled put up… It was a snippet of LunchMoney Lewis‘ video “Bills”. I immediately felt a sense of pride, most of the comments were pretty positive and most people seemed to like the song. My pride comes from the fact that I have known LunchMoney since he was in the group Bottom Of the Map. I’ve interviewed him a few times (check ChunkyChickz Youtube channel for clips) and I’ve had the pleasure of watching him grow in an industry that wouldn’t typically feature this kind of artist.

Seeing that I have been out of the loop for sometime now. I was also pleasantly surprised when I found out that Lunch also co wrote and performed the vocals for a track on Nicki Minaj’s album The Pink Print. “Trini Dem Girls” is actually one of my favorite songs on the album. Don’t ask me how or why I didn’t realize that it was Lunch accompanying her on the track…  LOL This is an artist who has been grinding in Miami for a while now, and it looks like his time is now. These days Lunch can be found living it up in Los Angeles writing and building up his songwriting credits making moves just like he did when he was here in Miami. Gotta say again that I’m proud of him, but I’m not surprised at his success seeing that he is the son of  Inner Circle’s bassist and Co Founder of Circle House Studios here in Miami Ian Lewis.

Check out his newest single “Bills’ below…

JAZMINE SULLIVAN HAS THE #1 R&B ALBUM

jazminesullivan reality show

Jazmine Sullivan’s newest studio effort Reality Show, debuted at Number 1 on the R&B Albums chart. According to Nielsen Music, Sullivan’s Reality Show sold 29,000 copies in its first week. The album is currently Number 12 on the Billboard 200 charts. Jazmine was recently interviewed by Billboard Magazine and she had this to say about the heartbreak that inspired her new album.

“The most personal song is called Forever. I’m basically crying on that song. It’s a ballad, and that’s classic Jazmine.” The singer added, “It’s a letting go song which is why it’s so personal. I feel like I came to a point in my relationship where I needed to let go and move on. I just had to do it.”

Missy Elliott joined Sullivan again on her second effort, Love Me Back in 2009. In order to properly promote the album, Sullivan went on the road with Mary J. Blige for the Music Saved My Life tour. The album didn’t achieve the commercial success that Fearless managed to accomplish, but Love Me Back spent a respective six weeks on the Billboard 200. No worries, Jasmine Sullivan knows how get and keep a few coins as she has written songs for a number of mainstream artists including “Say I” (Christina Milian), “Everything to Me” (Monica), “I’m His Only Woman” (Jennifer Hudson), “Still Love You” (Tamia), and “I Want You” (Mary J. Blige).

Jazmine is back! LOVE IT!
