Ah the Life and Times of Bessie Smith will now be coming to a small screen near you! Starring Queen Latifah, Mo’Nique and Mike Epps this is most definitely going to be worth tuning in to. I’m a music buff so I know who Bessie Smith is, but for those of you who need a refresher… Here you go!

Bessie Smith (Chattanooga, Tennessee, April 15, 1894 – Clarksdale, Mississippi, September 26, 1937) was an American blues singer. The Empress of the Blues was the most popular female blues singer of the 1920s and 1930s. She is, along with Louis Armstrong, a major influence on other jazz vocalists. In 1930s Harlem, Bessie Smith was a married woman who kept a female lover. Her popular songs include ‘Nobody Knows When You’re Down and Out’ and collaborations with Louis Armstrong, such as ‘I Ain’t Gonna Play No Second Fiddle’ and ‘St. Louis Blues.
